I happen to be the poster child for Seasonal Affective Disorder. When it gets dark out and the sun goes away, I struggle sometimes. Today I want to share with you 4 quick and easy ways that you can beat the winter doldrums during these dark months.

Strategy #1

The first is, go out of your way to spend some time in the light. If there’s sunshine that day even just at noon, make sure you go out of your way to take your lunch break outdoors, take a phone call outside – whatever you need to do to soak up some vitamin D. If that’s not going to be an option for you, I would highly recommend going online and purchasing one of the light therapy lamps that are available these days. They can be an incredible supplement during those months when you feel like you aren’t getting enough natural light to make all of the happy chemicals in your body.

Strategy #2

The second strategy is to make sure you keep your body moving. Endorphins are a wonderful, natural antidepressant. Try not to slack on your exercise regime this time of year.

Strategy #3

Remember to try not to overindulge on drinking and smoking pot this time of year. I know it’s easy to do during these cold, dark months when you don’t want to go out as much. However, those are depressants that you’re pouring into your system, so be cognizant of that.

Strategy #4

Remember that talk therapy has some highly effective and proven strategies that can help folks who feel like they really struggle during the winter months. Keep that in mind as an option if you need it.
