mental health Denver, CO

Mental health is an important, serious matter that is not talked about nearly enough. This is just as important as physical health and it is something that requires attention. As therapists, we understand the need to pay attention to a persons’ mental health and to be aware of the signs that point to problems. This allows people to seek the help they need early on. With that in mind, here are some basics that every person should know.

What is mental health?

Mental health is a mix of behavioral, emotional and cognitive well-being. The way we think, the way we feel and the way we behave are all parts of our emotional well-being. This type of health can interfere with daily life because it can influence interactions and behavior, such as how a person handles themselves in a meeting or how they react during a conversation with a family member.

Signs that a person needs help improving their mental health

It is important to recognize these signs sooner, rather than later. When a person realizes that there is a problem, they can seek the help needed to reach a better state of being. Some of the signs that a person may need help are:

  • Agitation
  • Always wanting to sleep
  • Losing interest in activities
  • Not spending time with anyone
  • Nervousness
  • Excessive worry
  • Losing sleep
  • Losing weight
  • Lack of personal hygiene
  • Major shifts in mood swings
  • Constant fighting with friends and family
  • Feeling unworthy or useless

These signs can play out in daily life. For example, if a person that was once outgoing no longer wants to speak in public or interact with friends, it may be due to a mental health issue.

Mental health can be treated

Anyone who is exhibiting signs of a mental health problem should speak with a professional in our office. We treat mental health on a daily basis and do so through therapy and other interventions. The most common conditions we treat are:

  • Anxiety disorders: This can include phobias, OCD, panic disorder, PTSD
  • Mood disorders: These range from mild depression to helping patients who are bipolar
  • Addiction

Since many of these can be treated with a combination of therapy and medication, it is important that a person seek help from a mental health professional. We can provide insight into a particular disorder, while also recommending a course of treatment. This helps our patients to get back on their feet, reach a better state of being and to begin enjoying life again.

You are not alone

Too often, those who are suffering from a mental health challenge isolate themselves even further. Rather than seeking help, they stay home, stop socializing and do not speak about the struggles they are having. We urge you not to do this. You do not have to be alone. We are here to listen, provide support, encouragement and treatment.
